Brett Favre! Brett Favre! Brett Favre!

Well, here we go. Peter King's talking and his "gut feeling" is Brett Favre wants to play for the Vikings next season. So we may be in for another spring and summer of Favre in Minnesota speculation.

Please post your thoughts on this. Could Favre help the Vikings?

My own "gut feeling" is that he couldn't. At best the Vikings tread water with him.

When the Jets imploded in December and missed the playoffs, Favre's play was a big reason why. Tarvaris Jackson actually played at a higher level. So when Tarvaris Jackson is outplaying him, I really wonder, at Favre's age, if he has much left to offer. Of course, it's all speculation right now. But speculation is fun.

And there's nothing great about this post by Tom Marino. But I've linked it because in Marino's assessment of the Vikings 2008 season, he writes that the Vikes problems at quarterback could see them enter the "J.P. Losman sweepstakes."

If the Vikings do go after Losman (I suggested it last year), I don't think they will have much competition. It will be more akin to shopping at a thrift store than a sweepstakes.

I've continued to think that Brett wanted to play with the Vikings last year and probably still does. He blew his chance when he stayed away from camp when Thompson told him to. He should have forced the Packers' hand instead of Ted forcing his.

Now, if he asked to be released or retires from the Jets, he has already demonstrated that he doesn't have enough in his tank to make a full season. There is also his injured arm that needs surgery.

But can you see how Chilly would get so excited to have him and his other love child Tarvaris, that he would be giddy all off season long.

Would you want the injured 40 year old Brett Favre? I don't.

I even thought what if he came in as a coach? I quickly dismissed the idea knowing that he has been a diva his whole career, and that it takes a team oriented type player who will to share his knowledge. Brett has never demonstrated that. He just needs to retire or disappoint Jets fans for another year.

Favre is just one season removed from an MVP-type season. But could he produce another year like that at his age, with these wide receivers and with Childress and Bevell calling the plays they have always called?

Doubtful, I'd say, although maybe the play calling changes because you've got a QB who is capable of more.

If we have to rely on Brad Childress's play-calling to make Brett Favre good again, then we shouldn't go anywhere near the guy.

I'd say that Favre gives us the best chance to win NOW. He's worth at least one more season. Let's not forget that he and the Jets were the toast of the NFL after defeating Tennessee.

I saw enough of Jackson BEFORE this past season. He is clearly not the answer. And anyone in 38 year old Gus Frerotte's corner should certainly favor Favre.

You know Wilf would force the Vikes front office to make this deal if it were remotely possible. This would add more hype to a team that desperately wants to win back the favor of the fans and the community.

If the choice is Favre, Jackson, or Frerotte (who probably will not be coming back), I pick Favre every time.

For those that say no - who would you rather have that would be available? I have a hard time finding any better names out there, beyond paying a king's ransom for one season wonder Matt Cassel. Kurt Warner? Kerry Collins? Who's the best option? I'd like to hear it.

Given the Vikings current corp of QBs, you're right to point out Favre wouldn't look so bad in purple. And the list of QBs who might be available through free agency or trade (Losman, Kyle Bollar) isn't appetizing.

Fans like myself probably are putting too much stock in how he played for the Jets over the stretch run. But he looked so bad during it that it's hard to erase the memory of it.
