L.A. Talk

Here's a piece by the National Football Post's Andrew Brandt about the Vikings stadium situation. If you're looking for a new NFL site to read everyday, I'd recommend this one. Brandt and Mike Lombardi write interesting and insightful stuff on it just about every day.

Some hilarious comments made by several Packer fans at the end of the post as well. As usual, they argue the Vikings have no "history" (unlike the Packers and the Bears) so moving the Vikes is okay with them. They also claim Vikings fans don't support the team. Feel free to defend Vikings fans on that site or here. And don't forget to throw in a few insults directed towards those Packer fans while you're at it.

Update!
Now here's a case of addition by subtraction. Viking Update is reporting Vikings special teams coordinator Paul Ferraro is joining Steve Spagnuolo's staff in St. Louis and will be the Rams linebacker coach.

So is that why the Vikings special teams were so bad this year and pretty average the other two? Because we had a linebacker coach running our special teams?

I honestly think that the special team would be better with no coach then Ferraro. Good luck to the Rams. (hahahahahahahahaha)

I watch the Vikings every Sunday, but I think this is ridiculous. The state is already $5 billion in debt, and we're going through the worst economic recession since the 30s. If that's what the league views as a good idea, be done with the Vikings and let them go.

I believe having the specter of a teamless LA over the head of every metro area is something that the NFL has enjoyed using to their advantage. If not for that, there would be no threat to move a team because every other viable market (and then some) is occupied. This happened to baseball, and they had to do the whole contraction thing to strike the fear of god back into the fans.

I follow the Vikings almost religiously, but I have no problem with them packing up for LA.

Apparently Football Outsiders has found that the performance for special teams for just about every NFL team, except Buffalo, varies wildly from year-to-year. So with Heath Farwell back and Ferraro gone, expect the Vikings special teams to be much improved in '09. (of course, improving the talent there won't hurt either.)

Travis:

I suspect most Minnesotans (I'm assuming you are one) hold the same view. Not a good use of public funds during tough economic times or even good economic times. I'm starting to think the Vikings might be playing somewhere else in a few years. But I think the franchise name will be kept and an expansion team or whatever will be put back in Minnesota eventually if that does happen.
