The National Football Post is reporting that offensive tackle Vernon Carey has signed a fat new contract that will keep him in Miami.
If this is legit, it's another disappointing development for the Vikings. The Vikings are looking for someone to play right tackle besides Ryan Cook or Artis Hicks. The Vikes were reportedly very interested in Jordan Gross (who re-signed with Carolina) and Carey. With those two players off the market, that leaves Khalif Barnes and, well, I'm not sure who else at the right tackle position.

I'm not too worried about the O line. Even if we locked up a guy like Gross or Carey - I am skeptical that would help us much with T Jack back there. QB is the main priority.
We may slide a little with Birk gone, but I would have considered the Vikes O line as a top-15 squad last year, if not top-10.
I hope we do use our 1st rounder on an O-lineman if quality is available at our pick, though. That, or a decent CB.

The Access Vikings blog today has Childress saying he'd love to have Birk back. With so many free agents off the market, the Vikings may decide to use some of their cap money to re-sign Birk and Kleinsasser (Sharper they don't need).
