Good thing March Madness is on

Here's your daily smile. Someone thinks more highly of Naufahu Tahi than the Vikings.

The Vikings are interested in signing Seattle fullback Leonard Weaver to replace Tahi. (Update: Weaver has signed with the Eagles.) But if that doesn't work out, couldn't Jeff Dugan do the job? The Vikes started handing the ball to Dugan in short yardage situations at the end of last year and as a tight end, he's a better pass receiver than Tahi ever was. And he can block. And he's under contract. And he's cheap.

Here is the latest on the Jay Cutler situation.

If the Broncos are indeed going to try and smooth things over with Cutler, I think that's the right call by Denver management. But I still think the team will trade him by draft day. I wonder if the Vikings are one of the 10 teams that called about Cutler?

Finally, the National Football Post's Wes Bunting has been producing all sorts of interesting stories about potential draftees this winter. Here is one on some of the better middle linebacker prospects.

I've wondered if Jeff Dugan or Garrett Mills could handle the FB job better before Tahi hit the market. I think they would be better and are both on the roster.

Good link to the short shuttle article. It immediately brought to mind Dontarrious Thomas. Super athlete that didn't amount to anything. Did a 4.03 in the short shuttle:

Back when we drafted him, the combine numbers would suggest we had a LT/Shawne Merriam drafted out of the second round. Now he can't make a roster.

Just looking at Mills in pads, he doesn't look like he's got enough lead in his pants to be a fullback. Not thick enough. He's there to catch passes. I couldn't imagine him leading the way for Peterson or Taylor and taking on linebackers or safeties.

Thanks. Didn't know Thomas had such a great shuttle time.

It would be nice if Dugan could get the job done. After seeing the offer to Tahi and then Weaver leave the market, I wondered if Minnesota would match to keep Tahi. That's what the tag is for, right?

I agree with you on Mills. He's got potential as a pass catching TE, but I don't see him filling Tony Richardson's shoes. Richardson is overpaid now, but man it was nice to have him on the roster back in the day.
