Even with these stupid lists, the Vikings can't finish number one

Just finished watching the NFL Network's "Top 10 Snakebitten Franchises" episode and the Vikings finished second .... to the Cleveland Browns.

The Cleveland Browns?

I realize the Browns haven't won a Super Bowl either and they got beat on "The Drive." But geez, how can you put them ahead of the Vikings – the losers of four Super Bowls, the victims of the Drew Pearson push-off, victims of the most lopsided loss in NFL conference championship history, victims of the Nate Poole game, and Gary Anderson missing the chip shot field goal and Darrin Nelson dropping a coulda-been conference championship-winning catch at the goal line in 1987?

You're telling me, NFL Network, that the Browns are more snakebit than the Vikings? Give your collective head a shake or two.

The only thing that bothers me more right now than the Vikes finishing second on this stupid list, is that I'm somehow bothered that the Vikings finished second on this stupid list.

And I notice NFL Network has some guy named Randy Moss in Mankato covering the Vikings training camp. Do they think they're being funny or clever here?

Fuck.

If and when they move the team... that's when I'll side with you.

Browns fans had the rug pulled out from underneath them. Modell packed the team up the day before his requested ballot referendum passed. The NFL allowed him to take the team away from the city just for spite.

Not only that, but after they move, they WIN THE SUPER BOWL FOR BALTIMORE! (This is nothing compared to the success of the LA Lakers after their move from Minneapolis, but I'm not old enough to remember them anyway).

Think of the countless #1 overall / top 3 picks that have all been busts.

Think of all of the success of their division rivals (Pittsburgh / Baltimore). They get destroyed by those teams every year.

They have been irrelevant for just as long as I can remember.

The only "superstar" they've ever had was Jim Brown. We've at least been able to see some of the best players to ever play at their positions (Tarkenton, Moss, Peterson) and a slough of hall of famers.

I've always brought up the Browns in conversations when Vikings fans are crying in their beer. We've had some shit luck... but Cleveland has had it much worse.

Good points. The move to Baltimore and subsequent Super Bowl win is a tough one. But I guess this depends on what you consider snakebitten. I'm sure Browns fans would disagree with me, but I think it's more agonizing being a fan of a team that has excelled, had great players, played in plenty of big games and always, always come up short. So close so many times and, yet, nothing.

When your franchise is always mediocre-to-poor, that's not a case of being snakebit, or poor luck, that's just consistently poor management.

Agreed. I neglected to notice the term "snakebit". There are a lot of worse franchises in the NFL historically... but none more "cursed" or "snakebitten" than our beloved Vikings.

Buffalo, Philadelphia, Houston/Tennessee and San Diego could be considered strong but distant runners up.

Perhaps it's more fitting that they came in #2... it proves the point to be self evident.

I was a Vikings fan for 40 years, but not after tonight's pathetic loss to the Carolina Panthers. A Superbowl contender? Not in your dreams! The Vikings couldn't beat the Brownies let alone the Girl Scouts. Go home and do us all a favor Vikes. I want all the money back I've ever spent on Viking's garbage.
