Kevin Seifert writes that the Vikings don't have to keep four quarterbacks on the roster if they want to keep John David Booty around.
The Ragnarok and Vikes Geek have already taken stabs at this topic.
The state of the Vikings quarterback position has been so bad since 2004 that fans and bloggers have grown accustomed to worrying about it. It's like it's part of our DNA now. But whether the Vikings cut Booty, keep him or lose him while trying to stash him on the practice roster isn't an issue to fret about.
I haven't had the stamina to watch Booty take reps with the rest of the scrubs in the first two preseason games. But I suspect if Booty is the future of the Vikings quarterback situation, that future seems a ways off and will be one mired in mediocrity when it arrives.
The Vikings need to develop some other strategy for addressing how to capably fill the QB position after Favre packs it in again. Perhaps Sage Rosenfels is the answer. Maybe they have to make some dramatic Jared Allen-like trade. Or maybe they have to do what it takes to nab a potentially studly QB in the first round of next April's draft. But Booty isn't the answer, even if some of us would like him to be.
So cut Booty, or try to stash him on the practice roster and maybe lose him – or not. But let's not get stressed about it.

I completely agree. Booty could eventually turn into a nothing-to-write-home-about starter in the NFL, but I think the Vikings need to really look to the future.
I think the answer is trading up in next year's draft. I hate to say this, but Chester Taylor might be good trade bait. I'd hate to see Chester go, but the fact is he's good enough to start for a lot of other teams, and it looks like Albert Young would have the potential to be AD's backup, and a pretty solid one at that. Maybe not to Chester's level, but still very solid.
Maybe they can use Taylor to trade up, potentially getting high enough to grab Bradford or McCoy.
I could also see Childress taking a chance in a later round with Tebow. A lot of people don't think he'll become a good NFL starter, but Chilly likes big mobile guys, and really Tebow is a good thrower. Maybe reuniting him with Harvin would do good things. :-)

I'm not actually that worried about cutting Booty, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to go into next year with one quarterback on the roster and no quarterbacks signed for the next year, which is what would happen if Booty is cut and Tarvaris becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Of course, as was pointed out to me, Tarvaris is highly unlikely to become an unrestricted free agent due to the lack of a CBA.
So basically, it was a post, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
