One of the things that happens when you go 12-4 and come thisclose to playing in the Super Bowl is that other teams covet your players. And that is sort of happening to the Vikings right now with Chester Taylor, Artis Hicks and maybe Benny Sapp.
The Vikings haven't lost any key guys yet (although many Vikings fans would consider Taylor a key guy) but the team's depth is taking a hit.
I plan on writing a longer post this weekend with some thoughts on what the Vikings have done, what they haven't done, plus what some of their NFC North rivals have done, but I'm en route to San Diego for a two-week family vacation and Saturday is pretty much shot. Look for something on Sunday.
Anyway, yesterday I was in Yellowknife and by Saturday afternoon I'll be in San Diego – although I understand it's supposed to rain there today.
Hard to believe.

They have not lost any key guys yet, but they have not added any help either. Their secondary is weak at best and could use a shut down corner. We saw that against Arizona. They could also use a top notch linebacker.
After they fill those positions I think they have to fill some voids in a so so offensive line or just get a couple of those guys to pull their heads out of their butts.
Anon:
I think we can all agree the secondary is a big concern heading into 2010. However, there aren't lot of shut down corners available in the free agent market right now. The Vikes are probably wiser targeting somebody or somebodies in the draft.
You driving? Fun stuff.
I like that the loss of Taylor and Hicks opens the door to acquiring some free agents, but the lack of experience with the team will likely make the replacements a downgrade. A 3rd down back with immediate impact is harder to draft than an o-lineman who can contribute as a rookie. So, while I'm hesitant, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for the Vikings to go after LT or Westbrook if they're able to get a good deal. How's Sproles at picking up blitzes? I don't even know if those guys are still available; I'm not following the news very closely.

Didn't drive, we flew. The weather has not been very good here so far, although I do get a kick out of watching Californians wearing winter jackets when it's 60 degrees outside.
I understand the Vikings are now interested in Tomlinson. Sproules got tendered by the Chargers, so he's pretty much off the market.
Not to worry though, the Vikes signed kicker Rhys Lloyd today.
"Rhys Lloyd! Rhys Lloyd!" What a great name to chant before kickoff.
Californians are funny for a variety of reasons. I spent the weekend outdoors in boots, jeans and a t-shirt (slowly chipping 4 inches of ice off the driveway) because it got to a balmy 45 in Minnesota. I guess I can see why they might think northern folk are funny.
The more I think about it, the more I can see the LT thing happening, and even working well. I think Tomlinson would like a ring before he's done, and the Vikings give him a good chance at that. He might settle for being a 3rd down receiving kind of RB for less than superstar money for that chance... right?
